A Wise Man

Bob Bullock ’56, is an Alumnus of the Tau Brotherhood, which he joined in his third semester of college at Penn State.  Since then, life has taken him through the Navy, into a defense contract, and out the other side for a long career at Prudential Financial Group.

He retired at 60, but was lured out of retirement when a client that he had worked with at Prudential had contacted him about a business venture, working as Chief Financial Officer.

Penn State is a tradition for Bullock, which his children have continued to honor. “My father graduated in the 20s.  I graduated in the 50s, and my daughter continued on the tradition by graduating in the 80s from Penn State.”

Bob also admits that his children and grandchildren are his biggest successes in life.  Between his five children and twelve grandchildren, they have attended several prestigious universities including Robert Morris, Penn University, and the University of Central Florida.  He shares their successes with them and he could not be more proud.

As a Delta Tau Delta Brother, he pursued lacrosse in addition to his academics, and it paid off.  He was named an honorable All-American Defensemen and played in the North-South All-Star Game his senior year.

And he believes Alums and other donors should continue to donate to the Shelter.  “They should donate because they’ve been contributing to an enhanced or enlightened experience on campus.  I’m not a philosopher.  I might be 83 years old, but I’m still living for the future, not for the past.  You are a wise man if you have learned not to worry about the things in life you can’t control, and one of the things you can’t control is the past.”
