“Give Back To Those Who Follow You”Delt Blood Runs Deep for Jim Guerdon ‘54

“My father was a Delt of the Alpha Chapter at Allegheny College in the early 1920s,” said Jim.  “I pledged Tau Chapter the second semester of my freshmen year after being invited by Walt Yahn ’52, an acquaintance from Erie and a member of Tau Chapter – he was a senior at Penn State at the time.”

“Some of my favorite memories are the friendship and comradery that I had during those years, and attending the Karnea at Pasadena, CA,” said Brother Guerdon.

After graduating with a Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Jim served three-and-a-half years as an Officer in the Navy.  After being discharged, he went to the University of Michigan to earn an MBA, which led him to a career in Accounting and Finance – first as a Controller of a tool manufacturer and then into University Administration as Controller and Vice President at four different universities (two public, two private).  He credits the leadership roles he held in Tau Chapter with providing him the ability to have confidence, which is why he chooses to give back to our annual fund.

“Give back to those who follow you for all the experiences and successes you gained from being a Delt,” said Jim.

Brother Guerdon is still active with his motor home RV, and he and his wife make it to the coast of Maine during the summer months. However, he says “Being rather aged, I doubt my bones will make it to State College!  I still enjoy news about the Chapter, however.”
