It’s a classic story.  Boy meets girl, girl asks boy to accompany her to breakup with current boyfriend, and boy joins Fraternity.  OK, maybe it’s not typical, but it’s the path that led Robert Guentter ’89 to the friendly confines of 429 E Hamilton.

“There was a girl I liked in math class, and she was dating a Delt Brother,” recalls Guentter.  “She wanted to break up with him and asked me to go with her to the Shelter with her to tell him.  Rather than beating me up, the Brothers befriended me, invited me to a rush party, and to Fort Lauderdale for Spring Break!”

Among his favorite memories of Tau, Guentter cites late nights going out for food at CC Pepper’s or Pedro’s, stating that he learned so much about himself, his friends, and life in general during those late night food runs.

“I just want to help create the amazing opportunity I had as a Penn State Delt for today’s undergraduates,” said the Tau Brother.  “I have had an amazing and ever-changing career path since college which has included public transit, city planning, adult vocational education leadership, nonprofit education management and private consulting.  I have three terrific kids and an amazing wife. My youngest daughter wants to go to Penn State!”

Guentter said emphatically, without a doubt, that his Fraternity experience helped him learn to listen to other’s points of view, solve problems as a team, interact with others, and as Tau Chapter and IFC Treasurer, learn about budgeting and financial management.

“Your time at Penn State goes by very fast,” said the 57-year-old.  “Make the most of it by building lifetime friendships, networking, and learning your profession (actually spend some time with your class work)!”
